Marshall JCM 800 2203KK

Marshall’s 2203KK is a 100-Watt head that is part of their Signature Series. The 2203KK is a JCM800 that has been tweaked by Kerry King of the band Slayer. When the JCM800 2203 originally came out in 1981, King took it upon himself to add some modifications. His sound became incredibly popular, and so Marshall created a Kerry King Signature Series, the 2203KK.

The 2203KK is a single channel amplifier head. It uses three ECC83 Preamp Tubes and four KT88 Power Tubes. It has a three-band EQ of Bass, Mids, and Treble, as well as controls for Presence, Master Volume, and Preamp Volume, which are all standard on the JCM800. What makes the 2203KK special is what lies to the right of these controls: “The Beast” button, and controls for Gate and Assault. The Beast is a push-button that turns on King’s signature tone, including a custom equalization that boosts the gain in the mid-range. The Gate knob controls the threshold and the Assault knob controls the intensity.

With the Marshall 2203KK, you don’t only get the ferocious sound of Kerry King, but you get a heavy metal look as well. King is known for his tattoos, and the fret cloth and brushed gold panel of the 2203KK have been printed with a somewhat faint “tattoo” design, modeled after one of his many tattoos.
